• Industry Council Description

Agri-Futures Nova Scotia (AFNS) is a non-profit Association registered in Nova Scotia. Its membership is the Council of Leaders of the Nova Scotia Federation of Agriculture. Ten Directors are appointed by the membership to conduct the business of the Association. Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada provides a liaison officer to assist the Council and the Nova Scotia Department of Agriculture appoints an ex officio member to the Board.

• Vision

Agri-Futures Nova Scotia envisions a profitable and growing agricultural sector, with producers who have a good standard of living in an industry that provides food and agricultural based products to the marketplace.

• Mission

To support and encourage innovation and increase the competitiveness and profitability of Nova Scotia’s agricultural, agri-food, and agri-based products sectors.

• Mandate

To administer the Federal Government funding allocated to Nova Scotia under the Canadian Adaptation and Rural Development (CARD) program, the Advancing Canadian Agriculture, Agri-Food (ACAAF) program and now the Canadian Agricultural Adaptation Program (CAAP) until March 31, 2014.

• Areas of Strategic Priority

• To improve the quality of life for the farm producer.
• To enhance food safety and technology transfer.
• To assist the farm population including agriculture, agri-food and agri-based producers in seizing opportunities.
• To enable the sectors ability to respond to new and emerging issues.
• To support the sectors ability to pathfind and pilot solutions to new and ongoing issues to help it adapt and remain competitive.
